DL-Instant
DeluminæLab · Dec 2014 – Sep 2023 · commercial lighting and visualisation software
DL-Instant is the product the DeluminæLab engagement existed to build: a CPU/GPU rendering engine for lighting and visualisation, shipped as a Windows desktop application. I designed it, wrote it and took it to market as the only developer.
What I did
I chose the architecture and technology, then built the rendering engine and the product around it. The engine supports multiple windows and runs the same rendering pipeline on CPU and GPU, using Embree and GLSL. It evaluates radiance, sky and BRDF models, applies real-time Reinhard tone mapping, and denoises using a CPU/GPU VFL filter. Around the engine, I built the WinForms application, interactive and annual Plotly reports, the installer and the documentation. I also built a SketchUp plugin for scene export and a Qt tool for manipulating and exporting IFC data.

Technical proof
Rendering architecture
A CPU/GPU rendering pipeline with multi-window support, using Embree and GLSL.
3D math
Radiance sky and BRDF models, a real-time Reinhard tone mapper, and a CPU/GPU VFL denoiser.
GPU programming
CPU and GPU implementations of the same rendering pipeline, in Embree and GLSL.
Developer tools
Interactive Plotly reports, SketchUp scene export, installers, documentation, and a Qt tool for IFC processing.
C++ · Embree · OpenGL / GLSL · Qt · WinForms
